1.1. Mind wandering allows for creativity, however, with technology always available people mind wander less than ever before.
2. Multitasking
2.1. Multitasking does not existent. People can do multiple tasks that do not require much cognitive load which may look like multitasking.
3. Attention Blindness
3.1. Attention blindness occurs when people are only focused on one specific thing. This causes them to miss things that aren't in their focus even though it is right in front of their face. Ex. Gorilla video
4. Handwritten Notes
4.1. Taking handwritten notes extends memory not only because you have something written down to go back and reference, but because finger tips are one of the most sensitive parts of the body. This means that taking handwritten notes activates more of the brain than typed notes, which helps the brain remember more.
5. Cognitive Load
5.1. People only have so much cognitive load which controls how many things someone can do at once. New tasks or tasks that require a lot of attention use up most if not all of someone's cognitive load, whereas, tasks that someone does all the time or that require little attention and energy can be done at the same time because they do not use all of someone's cognitive load.
6. Heuristic
6.1. Heuristics are mental short cuts that a person's mind makes in order to conserve energy. These short cuts are the reason people make assumptions and stereotypes develop.
7. Attention Bias
7.1. People pay more attention to threats and things that cause fear than to things that are happy.
8. Selective Attention
8.1. Selective attention means that if something is on your mind you are going to notice it a lot more because you are already thinking about it and either consciously or subconsciously looking for it.
9. Attention as saliency from a perception perspective.
9.1. Bright colors, bold text, contrasting colors all draw attention because they are easy to notice.
10. Conserve Energy
10.1. Almost everything the brain does in regards to attention is to conserve energy.
