1. What Happened

1.1. German Rearmament

1.1.1. Hitler argues that the Treaty was unfair and that ever country should have had the right to defend its self.

1.1.2. Germany withdrew from the World Disarmament because no other country would disarm.

1.1.3. Germany re-introduced conscription which broke the treaty

1.1.4. Hitler ordered the German armed forces to rearm and prepare for war

1.1.5. Hitler remilitarised the Rhineland again violating the Treaty of Versailles.

1.2. The Saar plebiscite

1.2.1. When a vote was held to see if the Saar-land should be given back to Germany 90% of the population voted for.

1.2.2. The treaty of Versailles gave control of the Saar-land to the League of Nations and for 15 years France were to control the coalfields

1.3. Remilitarisation of the Rhineland

1.3.1. Hitler did this as he saw how the League did nothing when Manchuria and Abyssinia were in the same position.

1.3.2. Hitler gave his soldiers orders to withdraw if there was any conflict with France.

1.3.3. Britain thought of the Treaty as being too harsh on the Germans so they had another reason for not reacting.

1.4. The Anschluss

1.4.1. Hitler wanted to unite all german speaking countries

1.4.2. Austria was a German speaking country and Hitler was also born in Austria.

1.4.3. A plebiscite resulted in a 99.75% of Austrians voted for the union with Germany.

1.5. The Sudetenland crisis

1.5.1. Hitler demanded that Czechoslovakia handed over part of their country called the Sudetenland.

1.5.2. The Sudetenland was important as it bordered Germany and Czechoslovakia, also that it was where many of the "Fortresses and factories" were based.

1.5.3. Hitler threatened war.

1.5.4. They organized the Munich agreement to try and negotiate peaceful terms.

2.1. Treaty of Versailles

2.1.1. Many Germans started asking for revenge, especially after being told that they are wholly responsible for the war.

2.1.2. The Treaty of Versailles said that they were not allowed to negotiate over the terms.

2.1.3. • Many Germans attacked the new Weimar democratic government for signing the Treaty of Versailles.

2.1.4. They were not allowed to remilitarise the Rhineland but did in 1936.

2.1.4.1. No one did anything to stop German rearmament even though it was against the Treaty of versailles

3.1. Pan-German Nationalism (Hitler wanted to unite all German speaking countries)

3.3. Hitler wanted to reverse the Treaty of Versailles to overcome the loss in WWI

3.3.1. Hitler wanted to re-arm Germany, this overcame the majority of effects that were caused after WWI and also, as Hitler promised employed everyone. This helped them to put food on their family's table etc...

3.4. Hitler wanted to create a Master race, where people were Aryan who were to rule above "subhuman" people.
