1. .wmv - Windows Media File -is a file type which can contain video in one of several video compression formats developed by Microsoft. The original video compression format used in the file, also known as WMV, was originally designed for Internet streaming applications, as a competitor to RealVideo.

3. .mp4 - Mpeg file format - used for audio and video streaming; compressed.
4. .vob - Video Object - DVD video format.
5. .m4v - iMovie - Itunes; compressed.
6. .flv - Flash - Common with YouTube videos; compressed.
7. .avi - Audio Video Interleave - one of the first digital formats to intermix small chunks of video and audio one after the other; hence, the name "interleave." See RIFF and multimedia container.
8. .mpg - Motion Pictures Experts Group - is a file extension for an MPEG animation in the MPEG-1 OR MPEG-2 codec. MPEG-1 was designed for coding progressive video at bit rates of about 1.5 million bits per second. It was designed specifically for Video-CD and CD-i media.
