1. Keyboard

1.1. Input Device used to enter data and commands

1.2. Benefit - Contains keys that provide shortcuts to perform certain action. For instance, pressing the F5 key refreshes the screen

1.3. Challenge - Learners may not be familiar with the keyboard and not know how to use certain keys

1.4. Learners can use the keyboard as a typing lesson.

2. Mouse

2.1. Input device used to navigate through applications and used to point and click on items such as icons on the computer.

2.2. Benefit - Ability to convert hand movement to computer function and format.

2.3. Challenge - Learners with no or limited mobility in their hands would not be able to use this device at all or properly.

2.4. Learners can use the mouse to submit an answer when sharing and collaborating during class.

3. Scanner

3.1. Input device used to transfer pictures, documents, etc from the scanner onto the computer

3.2. Benefit - Ability to copy documents or photos that you may be able to edit on computer or save to computer

3.3. Challenge - The only challenge I have noticed is that when items are saved to computer it seems to take up more space on the computer.

3.4. Learners will be able to scan their written reports or any other documents and share with others in the class.

4. Joystick

4.1. Input device that is used to move the pointer similar to a mouse and is usually used with games.

4.2. Benefit - Easy to use

4.3. Challenge - I have noticed that some have limited movement so individuals may have trouble adapting to using a joystick if they have never used one.

4.4. This can be used when incorporating gaming into the classroom.

5. Printer

5.1. Output device that allows electronic documents and photos to be printed out as hard copies.

5.2. Benefit - Variety of options, ability to print multiple copies quickly

5.3. Challenge - Proper usage in cases that it gets jammed

5.4. Ability to use to copy students work and make additional copies of worksheets

6. Speakers

6.1. Output Device that is used to produce audio output.

6.2. Benefit - Ability for visually impaired people to hear through speakers what they are unable to see on screen

6.3. Challenge - I could not really come up with a disadvantage to computer speakers but that they may cause distraction to others.

6.4. Speakers can be use to produce audio when learners are given a video presentation

7. Headphones

7.1. Output device that allows the listener to privately listen to audio from the computer.

7.2. Benefit - Ability to listen in private and not disturb those around you

7.3. Challenge - The only challenge that I can think of would be the comfort level of each or performance.

7.4. If a classroom is set up in a differentiated learning environment, headphones can be used at certain workstations for audio learners.

8. Monitor

8.1. Output device that displays information and graphics from the computer.

8.2. With touchscreen monitors, those that are physically impaired and unable to use the mouse can simply touch the screen and accomplish the same goal
