Opportunities – What can we do at the site? • A guided tour of the landfill, tip face, recycling areas, leachate capture systems, reuse shop, and green waste/organic recycling areas. • First-hand insight into where rubbish and recycling goes. • View the sorting process and learn why we cannot recycle some items and the consequences of placing wrong items into the recycling bin. • View the garden vegetation and general waste after it has been collected. Discover the benefits of recycling and reducing waste to landfill. • Learn about the local flora, fauna and history of the site. • Meet the people who work at the landfill. • Learn about waste avoidance. • Watch a recycling show put on by a performer in the Waste Education Centre. • Children make their own performance about waste management. • Waste Education Centre offers further resources to take back to the school for follow up learning after the excursion.
