Differences Between WWI and WWII

1. Causes

1.1. ww1 caused by small balkan countries fighting then more counteies getting involved and a willingness to fight

1.2. ww2 caused by countries trying to grab land and attempting to expand their empires

1.3. Both saw military build up by countries prior to the war

2. warfare

2.1. ww1 very defensive and troops sat in trenches

2.2. ww2 offensive mobile modern war. total war sides bombed civillians and whole countries

3. Germany

3.1. Nationalistic

3.2. WWI wanted land to compete with major powers

3.3. Came into war due to a treaty with austria WWI

3.4. WWII wanted to get back what they lost during WWI as well as be self sufficient

3.5. Started WWII by invading poland

4. France

4.1. Got invaded in WWI and was able to hold the line

4.2. Got invaded in WWII and lost very quickly

5. Japan

5.1. Part of the allies during WWI

5.2. Sided with axis during WWII

5.3. Nationalistic and built up military

5.4. invaded around the pacific to start WWII

6. Austria

6.1. WWI was an actual empire and lost, collapsing

6.2. started WWI

6.3. Was part of germany during WWII

7. Political Climate

7.1. Nationalism in Germany ww1 and ww2

7.2. ww1 the allied countries waned to go to war ww2 very hesitant due to tradgedies of ww1

8.2. ww2 great depression caused people to seek a different ootion than the current government leading to the rise of hitler and other leaders

10.1. Started out neutral in both wars but still sent aid to britian

10.2. Joined WWII due to pearl harbor

10.3. Joined WWI due to attacks by german subs and zimmerman telegram

11.1. Came into WWI because germany invaded netherlands

11.2. Came into WWII because germany invaded poland

11.3. won both times
