1. Once Manette arrives at the home he encounters the brother who tells him that the Evrémonde's had raped his sister and killed her father and husband.

2. After taking his second, younger sister into safety the brother decides to go after the brothers who harmed his sister.

2.1. As the brother died after being stabbed by one of the brothers he cursed the brothers and the rest of their family by signaling a curse with a cross of blood.

3. After all is revealed Darnay's mother says that even though he is innocent he must make up for the sins of his father and uncle.

3.1. Darnay is effected by all of this because once the letter is read to the court bloodthirsty cries burst out around the room speaking against Darnay who is sentenced to death the next day.

4. After delivering the letter explaining what happened to the court the Evrémonde brothers kidnapped Manette and secretly jailed him.

5. Carton attempts to atone for his past by trading places with Darnay and dying for him.

6. Defarge claims that Manette wrote a letter while in the Bastille.

6.1. Doctor Manette is summoned by the Marquis Evrémonde to take care of a young peasant woman who is dying of a fever, while her brother is dying of a stab wound.

7. Defarge is the younger sister put into hiding, because in chapter 12 she reveals that she had a younger sister who was a peasant woman whom the Evrémonde brothers had raped.

8. This chapters title shows how even though Manette's past is overlooked and ignored like ones shadow it has substance in it that can crack the code of what is really going on.

9. Darnay attempts to atone for the Evrémonde legacy by writing letters to everyone explaining why in a sense they were all guilty.

10. The importance of the chapter title Fifty-Two is that the day set as Darnay's death 52 people are set for the guillotine
