Introducing Electricity by Mind Map: Introducing Electricity

1. Sources of Electricity

1.1. Mains electricity

1.1.1. Power station --> Homes & Industries --> wires --> mains socket

1.2. Electric cells

2. Electricity = Electrical Energy (It is a form of energy)

3. Parts of a Circuit

3.1. the rate of flow of electric charges / the flow of electrons in one direction in a circuit = electric current

3.2. the path taken by the electric current = electric circuit

3.3. electrical components

3.4. open/closed circuit

4. Conductors & Insulators

4.1. Electrical Conductors: - copper - iron - aluminum

4.2. Electrical Insulators: - plastic - rubber - glass - wood

5. Circuit Arrangement

5.1. Series

5.1.1. The current that flows through each component is the same.

5.1.2. When one bulb is removed or broken, the remaining bulbs will no light up.

5.2. Parallel

5.2.1. The current from the battery divides and flows through each branch.

5.2.2. When one bulb is removed or broken, the other bulbs remain lit.

6. Measuring Electric Current

6.1. SI unit = ampere (A)

6.2. Use an ammeter.

6.3. Also measure in milliamperes (mA)

6.4. Connected in series.

6.5. Positive (red terminal) - Positive (cell side) Negative (black terminal) - Negative (cell side)

7. Measuring Voltage

7.1. SI unit = volt (V)

7.2. It is the difference in potential energy between 2 point.

7.3. Use an voltmeter.

7.3.1. measures the energy the electrons receive.

7.4. Connected in parallel.

7.5. Positive (red terminal) - Positive (cell side) Negative (black terminal) - Negative (cell side)

8. In Singapore, mains voltage is 230V.

9. Measuring Resistance

9.1. SI unit = ohm ( Ω)

9.2. The greater the resistance in a circuit, the lower the current.

9.3. A force put up by electrical components against the flow of electrons.
