Moodle Philosophy

1. Connected yet separate
1.1. Separate behaviour is when someone tries to remain 'objective' and 'factual', and tends to defend their own ideas using logic to find holes in their opponent's ideas.
1.2. Connected behaviour is a more empathic approach that accepts subjectivity, trying to listen and ask questions in an effort to understand the other point of view.
1.3. Constructed behaviour is when a person is sensitive to both of these approaches and is able to choose either of them as appropriate to the current situation.
2. Constructionism
2.1. People learn by doing and making
2.2. Blog,wiki, mindmap, podcast
2.3. Guided, Collaborative, publicly shared
2.4. Learners create artifacts that reflect their learning
2.5. Teacher and learner are not separate roles--you learn as you teach, teach as you learn.
3. Social constructivism
3.1. We shape our tools then they shape us
3.2. Groups construct knowledge for one another, collaboratively creating a small culture of shared artifacts with shared meanings.
3.3. When one is immersed within a culture like this, one is learning all the time about how to be a part of that culture, on many levels.
4. Constructivism
4.1. People construct their knowledge of the world by interacting with reality
4.2. New experience is tested against previous knowledge and organized into a personal framework
4.3. No objective and obdurate reality, we create reality
