8.1. Definition: A benchmark or interim assessment allows educators to check-in with the students to gauge progress, modify or adjust instruction, and predict students' success on a later Summative assessment.

9. Performance

9.1. Definition: A performance based assessment is an authentic activity that provides the students with an opportunity to demonstrate understanding of desired skills, mastery of content, and ability to be independent and self sufficient.

9.2. Examples: Community Service projects guided by a rubric and given opportunity for personal choice and creation of end result. Research projects presented to peers and teachers on any content area.
