1. Amlodopine
2. Antagonist
2.1. binds to a receptor site to block normal stimulation
3. Diltiazem
4. Indication: hypertension and angina
5. Pharmacodynamics
5.1. High calcium in the heart causes irregular heart rate
5.2. Block calcium channel on plasma membranes in the vascular smooth muscle cells
5.2.1. Ie- myocardium, SA & AV nodal cells
5.3. Vasodilator
5.4. Decreases venous return and the resistance the heart muscle has to pump against
5.5. This decreases cardiac workload and O2 consumption
6. Adverse effects
6.1. Dizziness
6.1.1. Monitor blood pressure to avoid hypertension
6.2. Nausea
6.2.1. Provide anti-sickness and encourage small amount of fluids and food
6.3. Constipation
6.3.1. Monitor bowel movements and record. Provide an laxative if needed
7. Contraindications
7.1. Unstable angina
7.2. Cardio-genic shock
7.3. Renal or hepatic disease
7.3.1. Reduce dose
