Quadratics and functions
by Amoni Wright
1. Axis of symmetry- Always passes through the vertex of the parabola. Example -
2. Standard form- A way of writing down every large or very small numbers easily
3. Maximum value - The value of a function at a certain point in its domain, which is less than or equal to the values at all other points
4. minimum value - A function is the place where the graph has a vertex at its lowest point
5. Binomial -An algebraic expressions of the sum or the difference of two terms
6. Real part - An imaginary number or sometimes, for emphasis, a purely imaginary number
7. Imaginary part-
8. quadratic function -One of the form f(x)=ax squared + bx+c, where a ,b , and c are numbers with a not equal to zero
9. Parabola- A plane curve which is mirror-symmetrical and is approximately U-shaped
10. Vertex of a parabola- Where the parabola changes direction
11. Vertex form- Of a quadratic function is given by f(x)=a(x-h)squared +k where (h , k) is the vertex of the parabola
12. Zero of an equation- An input value that produces and output
13. Root of an equation - A number x is another number which when multiplied by itself a given number of times equals x
14. Trinomial- consisting of three terms
15. Completing the square -A method used to solve a quadratic equation by changing the form of the equation so that the left side is a perfect square
16. Imaginary unit -A solution to the quadratic equation x squared + 1 =0
17. Imaginary number - Number that is expressed in terms of the square foot of a negative number
18. Complex number-Number that can be expressed in the form a + bi
19. Complex conjugate - A complex number is the number with an equal part and an imaginary part equal in magnitude but opposite sign
