Disc Golf by Mind Map: Disc Golf

1. It is called disc golf because the discs are thrown at metal baskets at a long distance, much like in golf. The baskets are referred to as holes and are even labeled and scored much like golf. For example some holes are considered Par 3 and some are Par 4.

2. A disc used in Disc Golf is not a frisbee.

2.1. A frisbee is designed for throwing from person to person distances that are usually not greater than 50 feet.

2.2. A disc is designed with aerodynamic properties. Some discs are designed and weighted as putters to be thrown in short distances to the hole/basket.

2.3. Other discs are designed to be thrown long distances, sometimes up to 500-800 feet.

3. Today disc golf is considered a professional sport.

3.1. The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) governs professional disc golf tournaments all over the world.

3.2. There are many companies that make different kinds of discs and sponsor professional players. Every player has their own favorite disc.

4. Disc Golf originated in Canada

4.1. The first known disc golf game was played in 1926 in Bladworth, Saskatchewan, Canada.

4.3. In 1976 Ed Headrick introduced the firm disc golf target with chains and a basket as it is used today.
