1. completing the square
1.1. completing the square is a method used to solve a quadratic equation by changing the form of the equation so that the left side is a perfect square trinomial.
2. minimum value
2.1. the minimum value of a function is the place where a graph has a vertex at its lowest point
3. parabola
3.1. In mathematics, a parabola is a plane curve which is mirror-symmetrical and is approximately U-shaped.
4. quadratic function
4.1. A quadratic function is one of the form f(x) = ax2 + bx + c, where a, b, and c are numbers with a not equal to zero.
5. vertex form
5.1. The vertex form of a quadratic function is given by. f (x) = a(x - h)2 + k, where (h, k) is the vertex of the parabola.
6. vertex of a parabola
6.1. This point, where the parabola changes direction, is called the "vertex".
7. zero of a function
7.1. Where a function equals the value zero. Ex: -2 and 2 are the zero's of the function x^2-4
8. complex number
8.1. A complex number is a number of the form a + bi, where a and b are real numbers and i is an indeterminate to satisfy i^2=-1.
9. Axis of symmetry
9.1. The axis of symmetry is the vertical line
10. Binomial
10.1. an algebraic expression of the sum or the difference of two terms. An example of a binomial is (5x-1).
11. Maximum Value
11.1. the maximum value of a function is the place where a function reaches its highest point, or vertex, on a graph.
12. root of an equation
12.1. the value which, substituted for the unknown quantity in an equation, satisfies the equation.
13. standard form
13.1. Standard form is a way of writing down very large or very small numbers easily. 10^3 = 1000, so 4 × 10^3 = 4000 .
14. Trinomial
14.1. an algebraic expression consisting of three terms. (3x+5y^2-3)
15. complex conjugate
15.1. each of two complex numbers having their real parts identical and their imaginary parts of equal magnitude but opposite sign.Ex: complex number is 2+i complex conjugate is 2-i.
