7. vietnam
7.1. The draft was a big part in the Vietnam War. The black panthers were heavily against it because they would have been fighting for freedom in another country when they didn't have it in their own. The lesson the US learned from this is to take away the draft. Roughly 30,000 men fled the US to dodge the draft. The US took away the draft because the only people getting drafted were the poorer and uneducated people.
7.2. Another mistake was how the war started. There were US ships around the Vietnam area and they first day the US ships got attacked they left it alone. On the second day the soldiers thought they got attacked but they didn't. So the war was started on the second day over false accusations. The US learned from this to attack when attacked and look into what happened more before attacking.
7.3. Nixon made another mistake by fighting the war for south Vietnam. The north was communist and the south wasn't. Nixon proceeded with the war with the intention containing communism but fought the war with US supplies. People in the US didn't like this because Nixon didn't release on the war. Families were losing members for a reason that was unknown. He later realized this and started to teach south Vietnam how to fight. This helped the US learn to make the country they are fighting in help instead of doing it for them.
