safe, supportive and positive environment by Mind Map: safe, supportive and positive environment

1. Remaining positive

2. Being fair but firm - allowing students to confide in you but not walk over you

3. Setting boundaries - you don't want students to disrespect you, similarly you don't want them to see you as their friend. You are their teacher.

4. Use of appropriate humour - don't make sarcastic, mean-spirited or otherwise innapropriate jokes.

5. Authoritive, not an authoritarian

6. Encouraging positive student behaviours, rewarding said behaviours with positive comments or other appropriate things.

7. Shutting down inappropriate behaviours - stopping bigoted comments of behaviour, this may be a students' only safe space

8. Being Preventative not Curative - prevent issues rather than cure them
