Validity and Reliability by Mind Map: Validity and Reliability

1. Concurrent

1.1. "Correlates with other tests"

1.2. Is important because it uses a validity coefficient to compare the scores between the similar tests.

2. Predictive

2.1. "Predicts future values of criterion"

2.2. Important as it forsees future student performance in college and other learning options.

3. Internal

3.1. The relationship is casual

3.2. It is important for there to be a relationship between the test and the material.

4. Criterion

4.1. "Correlation with standards"

4.2. It is important because it compares the test with similar tests belonging to an outside source.

5. Face

5.1. At first glance it looks like it will work

5.2. Important because a quick look can establish whether or not there is a connection between the test and the material covered.

6. Reference; ChangingMinds.org. (2002) Types of Validity. ChangingMinds.org. Retrieved from http://changingmind.org/explanations/research/design/types

7. Validity is important because it establishes whether the test is measuring the learning objectives.

8. Reliability is important as it looks for similar grades over extended time.

9. Split-half

9.1. 1 test divided into separate parts of the day will provide important information about the reliability of the test through the use of a formula.

10. Alternate Forms or Equivalence

10.1. The importance is in the measurement of achieved skills through the method of using 2 tests that cover the same material which should result in equivalent scores.

11. Internal consistency

11.1. If a student answers a 2 digit addition problem correctly, it is assumet they will answer other similar problems correctly.

12. Test and Retest or Stability

12.1. It is important to give the same test with a given period, the results should be more/less the same score.

13. Once all of the evaluations are completed, it is important for a conclusion to be drawn so that the test can be used from now on or returned to the drawing table for further changes.

14. It is important to know when the test is not accepted by others.

15. "Not being accepted by others"

16. It is important to know if the test does not correlate as it is supposed to.

17. Important as content ensures that the test is an adequate measurement of the learning objectives.

18. Convergent

18.1. Correlates as expected

18.2. It is important as the correlation is what is expected.

19. Discriminant

20. Construct validity

20.1. Reality is represented by constructs

20.2. It is important as it determines the logical explanation between the test and other subjects.

21. External

21.1. The relationship can be generalized to other people

21.2. The results of this test are comparable to other tests covering the same material.

22. Content

22.1. The subject is adequatedly covered by the experiment

23. Conclusion

23.1. The variables have some kind of relationap

24. Threats

25. Methods of Reliability
