by Kacie Sloniker
1. Classroom Community
1.1. - Safe spaces to cool down
1.2. - Welcoming classroom to all types of individuals
1.3. - Create a supportive classroom environment - clapping for one another
1.4. - Have set in stone consequences for things like stealing, lying, or bullying.
1.5. - Restorative Justice - • Values dialogue • Has an inclusive approach • Collaborative • Recognizes emotion • Contains mutual respect • Teaches conflict resolution • Promotes ownership • Maximizes learning outcomes
2. Resiliency
2.1. - Creating a trauma sensitive classroom
2.2. - Creating a safe space and welcoming classroom
2.3. - Multiple coping mechanisms
2.4. - Keep students safe, healthy, engaged, supported, and challenged.
2.5. - Be ready for anything, know lockdown, tornado, and fire drill procedures by heart.
2.6. Be ready for anything during a lesson plan. Whether it be a quick change in plans or an interruption, always be on your toes.
3. Classroom Assessment
3.1. - Online assessment is a great way for students to feel more comfortable or encouraged to test
3.2. - Running records are great to keep for each child
3.3. - Allow students to be creative for assessments. This will allow students to better show what they've learned than a standard test.
3.4. - An informal assessment that I have come to love this semester is discussions. This can be whole group or small group, but each student must participate.
3.5. - Exit slips are another informal assessment that I plan to use in my classroom.
3.6. - Online informal assessment tools like Kahoot are also something I plan to implement in my classroom.
4. Classroom Literacy
4.1. - Diverse library where each and every one of my students can find themselves represented in different books
4.2. - IRA's are a great way for students to get involved and be engaged. Students at EWA loved getting to ask questions about the book.
4.3. - Classroom wall posters to help students during their work.
4.4. - Allow students the opportunity to read once finished with work and waiting on other students to finish.
4.5. - Literacy centers are a great way to engage students and get them used to routine.
4.6. An attractive library with "in" books will spark students' interests to read.
5. East Washington Academy
5.1. - Students love to engage in discussion
5.2. - Every student gets a morning breakfast
5.3. - Mrs. Williams doesn't have a "set in stone" discipline process, she uses a doorbell to gain students' attention
5.4. - Students do most of their work, like times tests and spelling tests online
5.5. - I was able to teach 3 solo lesson plans about rocks - Igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks.
5.6. - I did my lessons in stations and with food materials representing rocks and the students absolutely loved it!
5.7. - I have been able to go on 2 field trips with the class. Once to the Planetarium and to Cornith, the one room school house.
5.8. - Supportive classroom community. I never notice or see students making fun or harassing each other.
5.9. - I was able to create an assessment with my teaching parter for our unit plan.
5.10. - For the assessment the students were able to be creative and make a brochure.
