3. Curriculum principles

3.1. Entry 1 and Entry 2 work on a spiral basis - assessment criteria are minimal so exposure, practice and repetition are key to confidence. SOW remains the same with extended assessment criteria. Assessment marks can be directly compared for a learner who completes E1 and then E2.

3.2. Entry 2 to Entry 3 has a large jump in assessment criteria and requires considerably more independence. E3 uses separate, more challenging assessments and extension work, so although the scenarios are looped again the task requirements are novel.

3.3. Entry 3 to Level 1 moves from 'nugget' skills to applying them in a wider, personalised context. E3 adequately prepares learners for the professional expectations of L1 and familiarity with the VLE and independent problem solving skills are key foundation skills for L1.

3.4. Level 1 to Level 2 requires a specialised curriculum which builds on the business idea designed in L1, focussing in on spreadsheet skills and digital media to produce stylish, functional and work-appropriate materials. New learners who begin at L2 can take the L2 Business Idea curriculum rather than the Focussed Skills path.
