Special Considerations in Instructional Design by Mind Map: Special Considerations in Instructional Design

1. Multiliteracy

1.1. Multiliteracy, a concept that is aligned with emerging technology, focuses on how technology should be used in learning experiences to help better enhance the understanding of new information.

1.1.1. Assignment: Draft a proposal to higher leadership to implement a new technology and explain how it would help enhance the learning experience for the audience.

2. Universal Design for Learning and Web Accessibility

2.1. ULD, or Universal Design for Learning, explains that, in order to design effective learning, the fonts, colors, and method in which content is presented, regardless of modality, is important in order to ensure that the learner is able to view the content. This section reiterates the idea of: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. In other words, design your learning materials to ensure that the reader is able to view and consume the content without difficulty. In addition, web accessibility should also be considered. In this, consider the internet connection, technology access, and overall accessibility the learner has and will need in order to consume learning materials.

2.1.1. Assignment: Identify a website that displays poor web accessibility and ULD and offer suggestions that would help improve the overall design of the site identified.

3. Emotional Components of Instructional Design

3.1. As Instructional Designers, it is important to understand that learners have an emotional response to the learning experiences that we design. This section of the course covers a theory cited by Don Norman, a cognitive designer, to help better understand how learners react to learning experiences and also how to design learning experiences with emotional components in mind.

3.1.1. Assignment: Evaluate a previous learning experience while implementing the ideas of Don Norman into a response going through the three levels of emotional design: visceral, behavioral, and reflective responses.

4. Integrating Emerging Technologies related to multiliteracy as the models and theories help Instructional Designers understand the best practices in implementing new tehnologies in design practice where the ideas of multiliteracy explains how best to utilize these technologies in learning design.

5. Designing with consideration for a multicultural audience can affect the emotional components of instructional design. If these qualities are not taken into consideration, the emotional response of the learning experience can be effected negatively.

6. Week 6 Assignemnt: Adrian Miranda

7. Integrated Multicultural Instructional Design (IMID)

7.1. The concepts of being aware of the lives and situations that our learners endure outside of the learning environment and how to better support and design learning based on these qualities. This includes social, economical, ethnic, and historical backgrounds.

7.1.1. Assignment: Create a graphic highlighting the integrated multicultural instructional (IMID) model that is designed to help instructional designers create learning experiences that consider multicultural qualities of a learner group.

8. Multiple Intelligences

8.1. Although there are theories that learners have a specific learning style, recent studies show that this may not be the case. Learners actually have multiple intelligence sets that they are able to use to solve a specific problem or complete a task. The idea of multiple intelligence explains that, rather than having a specific learning style, learners may tend to prefer an intelligence set (spatial, linguistic, kinesthetic, etc) in their approach to solve a problem of complete a task.

8.1.1. Assignment: Create a problem and solicit responses from individuals to see how they would approach the problem. The responses are then ranked to see how they would align with each intelligence set.

9. Integrating Emerging Technology in Instructional Design

9.1. With the emergence of advanced technology in the field of Instructional Design, this section of the course covers the various models that aid in integrating emerging technologies in Instructional Design practice.

9.1.1. Assignment: Research and Identify Emerging Technologies in Instructional Design & identify the technology integration models that would be used for the implementation of a technology.
