Reading
by Samantha Hoffman
1. Dragon Naturally Speaking
1.1. Students will be able to speak and write their paper for class. This helps teaching them how to write with improvments as well.
2. Livescribe Smartpen
2.1. The Livescribe smartpen captures everything that you write and everything that is spoken. Inside the pen is a camera that takes a picture of your notes as you write them. It also has a built-in microphone that lets you record what is being said. Once the pen is turned on, which requires the click of a button, the pen will begin taking a picture of the notes that you write.
3. Toontastic
3.1. A free–and amazingly fun–app that allows students to make their own cartoons, which is a great activity for students who have mastered story elements (characters, setting, conflict, resolution, and dialogue). The app walks students through each step of the story process, and the students title and publish their cartoons.
4. iPad
4.1. Students can click words for the definition and sounds.
4.2. Tablets
4.2.1. Both the Nexus 7 and iPad support Bookshare and Learning Ally, but the iPad apps offer a better experience for using these services. If you’re not a Bookshare or Learning Ally user and have money to spend on Immersion Reading books, the Kindle Fire may be the best option for you.
