Computer Input and Output Devices

1.1. The keyboard is an input device, also called a peripheral device, that allows the learner to type in commands and information into the computer.

1.2. The keyboard is a benefit in the classroom in that it allows the student to learn how to type and enter information into the computer system. A challenge to using the keyboard is learning its keys and how to use it effectively.

2.2. The mouse is an input device. It is another example of a peripheral device that allows the learner to input information into the computer.

2.3. The mouse is a benefit in the classroom in that it allows the student to click and choose between text and graphics on the computer screen.

5. The scanner is also an input device. It allows the student to copy information and upload it to the computer in an electronic (soft) copy..

6. Monitor

6.2. The monitor is an output device. It displays information in an electronic form also known as a soft copy. It is easy to use because it requires no manipulation by the learner other than turning it on and off as needed and making sure its resolution is as clear and crisp as possible.

7.2. A printer is an output device.

7.3. It allows the student to print a hard copy of the information typed into the computer via a keyboard.

7.4. It is a benefit to the classroom in that it prints information into a hard copy. It can be a challenge at first to learn how to operate it, but once learned it is easy to manipulate.
