9. in the 4th century, the Byzantines and the German Ostrogoths were fighting for the control of Italy, and Florence was one of the cities that they wanted, causing such destruction that the population was reduced to fewer than 1,000 people.

10. It was founded in 59 BC by Julius Caesar

11. In the 6th century, peace was restored under Lombard rule, and the population continued to increase and prosper under the rule of Charlemagne in 774.
