10. Estuary (haliç) _ The Haliç is a bay of Istanbul (the Golden Horn, as the Westerners say). The word meaning of the Haliç means the bay at the mouth of the river. According to the Greek legend; The Megarans named the Golden Horn for Keroessa, the mother of their king, White. Colonization began here in the Byzantine period. It was also the maritime center of the Byzantine Empire. The walls along the coast were built to protect the city from a fleet attack. To prevent the entry of unwanted ships at the entrance of the Haliç, there was a large chain across the city from the northeastern end of the old Galata tower. This tower was extensively destroyed by the Latin Crusaders in the 4th Crusade in 1204. But the Genoese built a new tower next to them. This tower is called the famous Galata Tower 1348 Christea Turris (Tower of Christ: Tower of Christ). During the Ottoman period, the Bektashi population was a region where the population lived. Many Bektashi lodges such as Karaağaç Tekke, Karyağdı Baba Tekke, Giresunlu Tekke were in this region.
