Module 5 by Mind Map: Module 5

1. Psychometric Approach to Intelligence

1.1. - I found it interesting that intelligence refers to the ability to adapt to the world. I always assumed it was mostly related to knowledge capacity.

1.2. - Fluid Intelligence interests me because I find that the capacity to make connections seems like a very important factor towards intelligence. I wonder if this has connections with those with ADHD or ADD

1.3. - Reading about Crystallized Intelligence and Fluid Intelligence made me wonder about the topic of "street smarts" vs "book smarts". How some people who are considered "street smart" are considered intelligent in certain environments and thrive there, where as "book smart" people would not thrive. I question if this thought is relevant to this topic or if I just went on a tangent of my own thought trying to make sense of this information in the textbook.

2. New Approach to Intelligence

2.1. - I found it fascinating that testing infants can predict intelligence to a certain extent. I assumed that because the ways infants develop are somewhat similar, then they're intelligence are somewhat the same. Unless there are determinants present in development.

2.2. - In this topic, I found it interesting that people with higher intelligence may exert less neural effort. I'm very curious as to why this is. Whether this is because of fluid intelligence like processing. Or because of a large amount of knowledge that is retained.

2.3. - Emotional Intelligence is something I want to look into more. I've always heard that having an adequate emotional intelligence in beneficial in maintaining healthy relationships and I wonder where I stand with regarding this topic.

3. Development of Intelligence

3.1. - Infant intelligence is very fascinating to me. I think the link between intellectual abilities and neurological health is very interesting. And I'm interested in learning more as to how these can be found out.

3.2. - Intellectual capacity in older adults is also very interesting to me. I think it is great that there is benefits when older adults are able to use their abilities through out their life. I saw this with my great-grandmother who played word puzzles up until her 90s.

3.3. - Intellectual intelligence change in adults makes me feel somewhat worrisome. Even at 25 I feel like I have gaps in my memory and I wonder if there are any underlying causes.

4. Group Differences in IQ

4.1. - Intelligence differences between low and high socio-economic status' are interesting to me. I've seen this throughout my childhood as I've grown up in low income areas and at the same time had friends in high income areas and I have noticed the differences.

4.2. - Intelligence differences also makes me feel sympathetic knowing that children have the ability to score well and be considered intellectual, but due to factors they can't control they can't reach their potential.
