1. Jacobs was born in Wapping (London) on September 8, 1863, on whose docks his father worked. He attended a private college and later Birkberck College. In 1879 he began working as a postal clerk. He published the first account of it in 1885. His path to success was relatively slow. Jacobs died on September 1, 1943 in Hornsley Lane (Islington, London). William Wymark Jacobs was a British humorist, novelist and short story writer. He is known mainly for one of his macabre stories such as The Monkey's Paw. His favorite themes were about "men who sail the sea in medium-tonnage ships," according to the humorous magazine Punch, in reference to the first book of short stories by Jacobs, Many Cargoes, which brought him great success when it was published in 1896.

3. Summary

3.1. Chapter 1:

3.1.1. The White family is a small family that does not have much money and receives a visit from an old friend.

3.2. Chapter 2:

3.2.1. Tom Morris shows the family a monkey's paw that can grant wishes but tells them that the person who makes the wish will be unhappy.

3.3. Chapter 3:

3.3.1. This chapter shows us how Mrs. White and her family are gathered in the living room of her house and decide that they are going to use the monkey’s paw and ask for 30,000 pounds, but after doing it, Mr. White begins to feel strange.

3.4. Chapter 4:

3.4.1. It was the next day and the family kept talking about what they had done the night before, Herbert is going to work.

3.5.1. A man comes to the White family home and tells them that Herbert died from an accident at work and that the company will give them 30,000 pounds for the death of his son.

3.6.1. Mr. and Mrs. White buried their son in the cemetery and they were very sad, one night Mrs. White came up with an idea and told Mr. White, the monkey leg still had two wishes and they could ask that their son come back. Mr. White wasn't quite sure about this but he still did it.

3.7.1. Mr. and Mrs. White begin to hear a noise Mrs. White runs off thinking that it is her son who has returned, Mr. White tries to stop her, they open the door and there is nothing. Mr.White takes the monkey's leg, makes the last wish but does not say what it is.
