
1. in the middle of winter
1.1. New to rexburg winters
1.2. was negative 2 degrees that night
1.3. we were suppose to go early in the day to stay in the sun while we hiked
2. Weren't prepared for the extreme camping conditions
2.1. didn't plan on camping at all
2.2. Didnt have several essential winter camping gear or tools
2.3. friends said they would bring us some things but didnt
3. husband had a bad feeling about it
3.1. Kept saying this wasnt well planned
3.2. Tried several times to get real plans
3.3. husband has a lot of experience winter hiking and camping
3.4. Doesn't really trust the friends because they are very irresponsible
4. terrible sleeping conditions
4.1. got lost and didnt make it destination
4.2. grabbed a mini shovel and digged a whole in the snow to have a place to put the tent.
4.3. literally sleeping on the snowy moutain side
4.4. negative 2 degrees
4.5. friends didnt actually bring us sleeping pads
4.6. too cold to fall asleep
4.7. started raining around 4am
5. Morning was just as cold but brought some hope
5.1. at least we could see more than a foot ahead of us
5.1.1. Felt a lot safer being able to see ahead
5.2. there was no more wind
5.2.1. A lot let miserable, and it was really pretty when we looked around, something we missed in the dark walking with our heads down to avoid wind burn
5.3. all our clothes to wear on the hike back down were frozen solid
5.3.1. That made waking up stressful and made me frustrated at my friends
5.4. boots were all frozen and took 20 min to get on
5.4.1. I was borrowing a friends boots
5.4.2. Hoped the boots weren't ruined
5.5. some folks by 10 am had walked on and packed down the second half of the trail on the way back, making it a lot easier
5.5.1. Made us feel much more at ease knowing we werent too off course, and now there were others walking around in case we needed help.
5.5.2. Felt cool when people who say we had camped were blown away and thought we were impressive
5.6. we made it through the night
5.6.1. honestly thought we were going to die in the night
5.6.2. upset that now I would have to do the same back down the moutain
6. Learning experience and cool to say I did THAT
6.1. My husband is a smart man
6.2. should be well planned and prepared for this situation
6.3. I went on a 6 mile 10 degrees, in the middle of winter, in the snowy wind, in 3 feet of snow, in the dark hike.
6.4. I went backpacking for the first time
6.5. we got a couple of cute pictures on the way back
7. last minute planned
7.1. friends never plan anything
7.1.1. Notorious for always planning things last minute, or not at all
7.1.2. Refused to make offical plans
7.1.3. was very frustrating
7.2. friends assumed that we would just wing it and be okay
7.2.1. was rather inconsiderate to not take into consideration our level of ability compared to them going hiking every weekend
7.3. friends didnt know where they were going actually and ended up getting lost
7.3.1. Frustrating when they told us, well actually we don't know where were going
7.3.2. even more frustating when they got us lost
7.3.3. every half mile they would say "the turn in just up ahead proabably another 30 min", but it never was
7.4. had no idea of the trail conditions or weather severity
7.4.1. Weren't physically fit for doing high knees for 3 miles straight
7.4.2. Did not have winter gear appropriate for conditions
8. Somewhere no one has been to
8.1. completely different town
8.2. completely new trial
8.3. no updated map availble
8.3.1. Our phones wouldn't load because we didn't have any signal
8.4. didnt realize there would be no service to call anyone or get a map to see where we were
8.5. didnt know what might happen
8.5.1. felt very scared and unsafe
8.5.2. kept thinking something super bad was going to happen
9. Scared and in pain
9.1. several times I thought we were going to die
9.1.1. almost cried several times
9.1.2. felt panic and anxiety the whole time
9.2. ended up waling 6 hours instead of 2
9.3. snow 3 feet tall so we did high knees for 3 miles, cause us to be very sore, and some legs to spasm and give out completely
9.4. snowing and windy in our faces
9.5. dark and no end in sight
9.6. walking along a mountain side just hoping there was no avalanche
9.7. Several times the snow fell deep and wed sink all the way waist deep in snow and need pulled out
10. pulled muscles, frost bite, and regret
10.1. pulled my hip flexors and couldn't take a step higher than an inch off the ground for over a week.
10.1.1. now every time sprint to this day it hurts
10.2. one friend got frost bite on toes, and had to go to doctors
11. Couldn't get help
11.1. had no signal to call anyone
11.2. too snowy and too late to go back
11.2.1. This made it even more discouraging knowing there was no going back at this point
11.3. no one else on the moutain
11.4. didn't know where we were anyway
11.4.1. We didn't make it to our location and
