1. 3 Phases of Educational Technology

1.1. Phase 1: Teachers use technology for teaching lessons.

1.2. Phase 2: Students use technology to gain knowledge of the subject.

1.3. Phase 3: Technology and content are fused together to create unique learning experiences.

1.4. Students learn to produce and publish technology, along with being an audience and peer-reviewing.

2. 21st Century Learners

2.1. Use technology when you need it, put it away when you don't.

2.2. Kids embrace change.

2.3. Kids want to be measured so that they know how they are improving.

2.4. Kids are born consuming media and they have to learn how to produce it.

3. A Vision of K-12 Students Today

3.1. One half of students will graduate high school.

3.2. There are more honor students in China than people in North America.

3.3. Most of the jobs our students will have do not exist today.

3.4. Not enough teachers use technology to engage their students.

4. Instructional Technology

4.1. Over a hundred years ago classrooms were one room and the biggest technology they used were blackboards.

4.2. Motion pictures and slide projectors were thought to replace textbooks eventually.

4.3. In the 1940s and 1950s people were skeptical that computers could ever really be used for anything.

4.4. By the 1980s and 1990s computer use had grown and in the 2000s it exploded.

5. Shift Happens

5.1. China will soon be the #1 speaking English country.

5.2. 1 in 4 workers have been working for their company for less than a year.

5.3. The U.S. government spends less money on education than Nintendo does on research and development.

5.4. There are five times more English words today than in Shakespearean times.
