1. The need for applied linguistics

1.1. Language is at the heart of human life. Without it, many of our most relevant activities are inconceivable. Try to think of communicating with your family, making friends, learning, falling in love, entering into a relationship, being a parent, maintaining - rejecting - a religious faith, upholding political ideals or taking political action, without using words.

1.1.1. There are other important activities, for example, that cannot exist without language. The preparation and consumption of food, manual work and craftsmanship, the visual arts, music, admiration for the world of nature or lamenting its destruction.

2. LINGUISTICS & APPLIED LINGUISTICS

2.1. Linguistics is the principle of the study of human language in all its domains. It provides a methodology for studying the structure of specific languages; it investigates what is fundamental to all human languages: how language varies over time and between communities.

2.2. It deals with practical issues related to community life.

2.3. The most prominent is second or foreign language learning. Others are language policy, multilingualism, language education, the preservation and revival of endangered languages, and the assessment and treatment of language difficulties.

3.1. Applied Linguistics is an interdisciplinary field of work that addresses a wide variety of language-related issues.

4.1. It provides students with an insight into the most important of all human faculties, develops strong analytical skills and a background that enables them to work in many diverse fields.

5. History of Applied Linguistics

5.1. In the early days, applied linguistics was considered "applied linguistics," at least from outside the field. However, in the 1960s, applied linguistics expanded to encompass language assessment, language policy, and second language acquisition.

6. The Scope of Applied Linguistics

6.1. On a daily basis, it is obvious that there are a large number of diverse activities in which applied linguistics is relevant. the scope of linguistics on a global level is quite uncertain. To get a more precise definition of the field, we have to be more specific. In other words, we have to refer specific cases to more general conceptual fields of study
