2.4.1. UPT Digital students coped extremely well after the Christchurch quakes. Despite having no resources or furniture, students pulled to together to raise funds for the trip to Wellington to present at Tech Hui. They also organized a presentation consisting of 12 students and a mentor and demonstrated what it's like to work in a UPT Digital team. We were fortunate to be able to work at the HITLab for the remainder of the year where students went on to raise money to go to Auckland to present at Microsoft Tech-Ed.

2.5.1. UPT Digital students created a sponsorship grid on a t-shirt to raise funds for the trip to Wellington to present at Tech Hui.

3.1.1. UPT Digital students work in teams or with freelancers and mentors. Students often work on real world projects with real clients too.

3.3.1. During our visit to Kaikoura we visited a few old Pa sites. We're interested in helping to protect these heritage sites for future generations.

3.4.1. We have pods in California, Otago and Canterbury, and mentors from all over the world. We go frequently go along to industry events to mingle with the professionals and keep tabs on industry news.

4.1.1. Students are involved with the entire development process of both our projects and our learning model. They contribute to legal discussions, potential partnership discussions, ideas around involving the wider community in what we do, etc.

4.2.3.1. IT is one of New Zealand's fastest growing export markets. The IT HOTHOUSE learning model helps to up skill students and prepare them for tertiary study and careers in IT.

5. LIFELONG LEARNERS

5.1. Literate and numerate

5.1.1. Students often need to create documentation to accompany their development projects. They also need to create tutorials for clients to step them through processes, and present and communicate at industry events. We go on a lot of trips that require budgeting skills and logistics, and most of our projects involve maths and sometimes physics in varying degrees.

5.2. Critical and creative thinkers

5.2.1. A lot of this learning comes from working along side a range of industry mentors. Through their experience we are able to draw on a broad range of knowledge to come up with interesting solutions.

5.3. Active seekers, users and creators of knowledge

5.3.1. All students must learn how to seek knowledge and apply that knowledge to extend their skills in the class. Students also participate in our peer-to-peer mentoring system to share their knowledge with others. This system is backed up by industry mentors.

5.4. Informed decision makers

5.4.1. Every time we have a decision to make, we address it as a group and discuss our ideas. We also research all the elements relating to the topic and weigh up the pros and cons of a situation before we make a decision.
