POWERFUL SOCIAL STUDIES

1. Avtive

1.1. -they had minds-on hands- on when brainstorming ideas them putting them on paper and making a short video to present their Mission

2. Integrative

2.1. This lesson incorporrated new technology by getting them to look up sources on the computer to find out information. Also they used a video camera to film their project so they could present it to the rest of the class.

3. Meaningful

3.1. this lesson can be used to get them to think critically and use thier way of brainstorming and working collaberatively on other lessons outside of social studies and in real life issues.

4. Challenging

4.1. -looking at the social studies lesson the teacher let the students make up their own questions and be creative when finding out what their mission was about

4.2. -the students were asked to think critically on their own in a dicussion within their group they were working on the project with

4.3. -worked in groups on the prohect working as a community of thinkers

5. Value-Based

5.1. -as a whole class they brainstormed questions they needed to find out about their Mission.

5.2. -since for the majority of the class, English was their second language the teacher was culturaly sensitive and made sure that the students all helped out with one another
