1. " I must follow him " (Hesse pg 91) Siddhartha pursues his son to make sure he is safe and because he loves him. In doing so, he learns that a father will do anything to make sure the well-being of his son.

2. " the son let his father commit his foolish acts out of love" (Hesse pg 90) the son of Siddhartha let's his father please him and returns his kindness with hate. Siddhartha learns that his son is quite stubborn and that he might never love him.

3. " never before, Vasudeva had spoken so many words " (Hesse pg 89) The ferryman has given his advice to Siddhartha on what to do about his situation. Siddhartha learned that his companion cares about his situation and he has been given advice on what to do.

4. " the boy remained a stranger and in a gloomy disposition " (Hesse pg 86) The son of Siddhartha does not accept him and is still morning about the lost of his mother. He learns that he must give his son some space until he true to bond with him.

5. Ch 10

6. " often Siddhartha has thought of the dying wise man, the great teacher " (Hesse pg 80) Siddhartha is having thoughts about what he is doing is the right path for him. He learned that theGotama is dying, which is why he might be having regrets if he should have stayed and learned his teachings.

7. " now you shall live with me, there is space and food for both" (Hesse pg 77) Siddhartha has been invited by the ferryman to live with him. He learns that the ferryman possess a gift that he wishes to learn as well.

8. " I have been looked upon distrust because of my clothes" (Hesse pg 75) The way he dresses cause people to look at him differently and untrustworthy. He learns that the way a person is looked upon is due to how he/she conducts themselves.

9. " he saw this water ran and ran, incessantly it ran and was nevertheless always there" (Hesse pg 74) Siddhartha saw the water for what it really was. He learned that the water always had a new destination and yet it seemed to be everywhere.

10. Ch. 11

11. " So many posses the sweetest of fortune- why don't I" ( Hesse pg 94) Siddhartha is trying to grasp the fact that he just lost a son. He learns that he was probably never destined to become a father.

12. " Alas the wound was not blossoming yet" ( Hesse pg 96) Siddhartha is trying to recover from a broken heart, that seems impossible to heal. He knows that his situation is difficult and that he has regrets on what happened.

13. " Every goal was followed by a new one " (Hesse pg 98) Siddhartha looks into the river and realizes his life is just like it. Ervery goal that Siddhartha reached and accomplished in his life was followed by an new more challenging one.

14. " Diddhartha stopped fighting his fate, stopped suffering." ( Hesse pg 98) WHile reflecting on himself Siddhartha decided to be like the river and just go with the flow. He learns that it will be his new skill to master.

15. Ch 12

16. " When someone is searching he will become obsessed by that goal" (Hesse pg 100) Siddhartha is explaing to his friend Govinda that becoming obsessed with a goal is not good. He must be careful when he explains because he does not want to offend his friend.

17. " Wisdom cannot be passed on" (Hesse pg 102) Siddhartha is telling the secrets to his friend on how to find enlightenment. He tells him basically that a person must find his own path. He learns that his friend iid still searching for teachings that will help him live his life.

18. " Time is not real, Govinda, I have experienced this often and often again" (Hesse pg 103) Siddhartha knows that there is no limits to the time of life. He learns this over time, that as long as you live life a certain way it would be like living forever.

19. " There is no thing which can be Nirvana" ( Hesse pg 105) Siddhartha has come to a understanding that the word he has been chasing since his youth can never be accomplished. Nirvana is a thought of what could happen.
