How has your idea of sustainable housing changed over the course of the project?

1. Houses don't have to be ugly to be sustainable.
2. Many different ways a house can be more sustainable.
2.1. Sun room to heat up a house.
2.2. Passive houses - solar, etc.
2.3. Position of windows for temperature control.
2.4. Angle of roof to catch rain/sun, etc.
3. Exploring more energy appliances.
3.1. Water - Taps, showerheads, etc.
4. Consider installation of materials in design.
4.1. Use locally sourced materials to be more environmentally friendly.
4.2. More sustainable products, such as bamboo.
4.3. Double glazed windows to regulate heat.
4.4. Water Tanks
4.5. Double bricks
5. There is more to sustainability than we originally thought - not just solar panels.
5.1. Include systems like grey water systems to reduce waste.
5.2. Vegetable food garden to reduce carbon footprint of food production and distribution,
5.3. Landscaping to improve biodiversity, increase shade for temperature control, and reduce carbon.
