1. Learning Theories

1.1. Constructivism

1.1.1. We learn by experiencing things and then reflecting on them afterwards

1.1.2. Dialogue and reflection are very important in the learning process

1.1.3. Teacher's create experiences for the students in which they can later reflect on to attain information

1.1.4. Teacher's should interact with students rather than just regurgitate information

1.1.5. Knowledge is always changing

1.2. Cognitive Load

1.2.1. Working memory allows us to take in 7 disconnected items of information in at once, which then can be transferred into long term memory

1.2.2. Long term memory is where information is stored and is unlimited

1.2.3. There are three types of cognitive load: Extraneous, intrinsic, and germane

1.2.3.1. Extraneous: Working memory focuses away from creating schemas due to inappropriate instructional designs

1.2.3.2. Intrinsic: Difficulty of instructional design

1.2.3.3. Germane: Schema construction and automation

1.2.4. We can ensure that information gets stored in our long term memory by chunking information into meaningful pieces or by repetition

1.2.5. Teacher's can use this theory to help them in planning lessons and creating powerpoints

1.3. Connectivism

1.3.1. Learning is no longer as individualistic as it was before

1.3.2. We can learn by connecting ourselves to others, using technology as way of communicating

1.3.3. One's capability to attain knowledge is more important in learning than the knowledge that same person already has

1.3.4. When we wish to learn something we ca use the connections we have to facilitate learning

1.3.5. It is critical to know what information is important and what information is unimportant

1.3.6. Teacher's aid the students in making these connections which will further their learning

2. Philosophy of Teachnology

2.1. It is a philosophy that each teacher holds regarding the use of technology in their classroom

2.2. As a teacher, we can write a statement on our own philosophy of teachnology. This is much like Philosophy of Teaching

3.1. Media Ecology

3.1.1. There are many different definitions of media ecology

3.1.2. Overall, technology impacts humans

3.1.3. Media and technology act as environments - the interactions that we have with them affects how we feel or think

3.1.4. Technology plays an important role in our lives

3.2. Social Construction of Technology

3.2.1. Human action is what shapes technology (the opposite of media ecology)

3.2.2. We must understand how technology is used in social contexts

3.2.3. We can determine the success or failure of a certain technology by interacting with the social world

3.2.4. Each individual has their own preferences on different technologies

4. TPACK

4.1. Stands for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

4.1.1. Includes Technological Knowledge, Pedagogical Knowledge, and Content Knowledge,

4.2. This framework outlines the relationship between these three knowledge types

4.3. The original framework did not include technological knowledge

4.4. To improve as a teacher, you must find a balance within these three categories
