
1. **PD Learning Outcomes**
1.1. Understand why coding in the classroom is important.
1.1.1. Understand ways to incorporate coding and coding concepts into the classroom
1.1.1.1. Know where to find helpful resources for teaching coding.
1.1.1.1.1. Feel comfortable implementing new ideas/ activities around coding within the classroom.
2. **PD Activities**
2.1. Coding Speaker will introduce what coding can look like within the classroom. Photograph and video examples will be shared as well as sample lesson plans. Edutopia Design Thinking video projected to further understanding on how teachers can use this in their classrooms.
2.1.1. Teachers given time to work with grade level members to plan an online or offline coding lesson appropriate for their age group.
2.1.1.1. Teachers introduced to new coding resources provided by expert speaker. These resources will include applications, website lists, and physical coding materials such as robots. Teachers given time to test out coding resources and discuss what they like, do not like, and still have questions on with peers and expert.
2.1.1.1.1. Coding expert speaker session where they introduce how to incorporate coding into various content area lessons. Experts will provide example lessons for each age group. Teachers will be given time to work with grade level team to plan for an adittional coding lesson for a specific content area.
3. **PD Timeline (Single Session)**
3.1. **9:00- 9:30 AM** - Introduction (what are we learning about and why, outline of todays activities, schedule)
3.1.1. **9:30- 10:00 AM-** Speaker who is an expert in the field and early childhood. Introduce coding in the classroom. Share Design Thinking video from Edutopia.
3.1.1.1. **10:00-10:30 AM-** Teacher work time (plan one coding lesson with grade level team). Followed by a share with other grade levels.
3.1.1.1.1. **10:30-10:45 AM-** Break
4. **Assessment of Learners**
4.1. Teachers attending the PD will be assessed on their coding understanding and knowledge through conversations, creation of effective/appropraite lesson plans, and participation in activities throughout PD
4.1.1. Teachers will learn that they can assess students by observing, their completion of coding projects, asking questions and participating in conversations around coding, and working cooperatively with peers.
