1. Syntax
1.1. This level focuses on how words join to produce sentences.
1.1.1. It investigates the rules applicable to the sentence form and word order.
2. Semantics
2.1. Linguists at this level investigate how words, phrases, and sentences work together to communicate meaning.
3. Pregmatics
3.1. This level corresponds with how context has an impact on how language is understood.
3.1.1. It investigates how meaning may shift based on the circumstances, the speaker, and the listener.
4. Phonetics
4.1. The physical sounds of human speaking are studied in this field.
4.1.1. It studies the physical qualities of speech sounds (also known as phonemes), such as their articulatory, acoustic, and auditory aspects.
5. Phonology
5.1. This level is focused on how sounds operate in languages or in general.
5.1.1. While phonetics is concerned with the physical creation and perception of speech sounds, phonology is concerned with the abstract features of sounds in specific languages.
6. Morphology
6.1. In morphology we see the study of the internal structure of words.
6.1.1. It studies how words are produced from more fundamental linguistic parts known as morphemes, which are the smallest units of meaning or grammatical function in a language.
