1. What I thought before?
1.1. Technology refers to the tools and machines that improve our lives.
1.1.1. LED bulbs
1.1.2. Cloud storage
1.1.3. Smartphones
1.2. My concept includes old technology that was in evolution to reach the current one, for example, punch cards until reaching cloud storage.
1.2.1. Phones
1.2.2. Diskettes
1.2.3. Light bulbs
2. What I think now?
2.1. New definition of technology
2.1.1. My own concept: Technology is anything artificially created by some life that solves a problem or improves life quality.
2.1.2. As mentioned by Kevin Kelly (2010) in his talk about technology "Technology is anything useful inventented by a mind"(TED, 2010).
2.1.2.1. Society
2.1.2.2. Culture
2.1.2.3. Organization
2.1.2.4. Machines
2.1.2.5. Technical operation
2.1.2.6. Technical phenomenon
2.1.3. Beavers that improve water quality thanks to the dams they build to level the water and protect their burrows from predators. “Beavers are countering water quality degradation and improving water quality by producing simulated hydrological extremes that dwarf what the climate is doing,” said Fendorf (Stanford University, 2022).
2.1.3.1. Chimps use "spears" to hunt mammals. (Roach, 2021)
2.2. after reading the module
2.2.1. "Technology is seen as the mother of all progress, as holding the solution to most our social problems, as helping to liberate the individual from the clutches of a complex and highly organized society, and as the source of permanent prosperity; in short, as the promise of utopia in our time" (İŞMAN, 2012).
2.2.2. Technology as hardware
2.2.2.1. It referes to the non-naturally occurring physical objects that solve problems or improve our lives (Defining the Word “Technology” ... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.2.2. It can overlap with things we would normally call art, and include things that animals might do (Defining the Word “Technology”... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.3. Technology as manufacturing
2.2.3.1. It referes to the tools, machines and processes used to make objects (Defining the Word “Technology” ... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.3.2. It includes the sociotechnical system that involves people, energy and industry regulation (Defining the Word “Technology”... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.4. Technology as methodology
2.2.4.1. It refers to the knowledge and experience behind hardware manufacturing processes (Defining the Word “Technology”... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.4.2. This includes the routines, methods and skills used to manufacture modern hardware, and consulting companies (Defining the Word “Technology”... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.4.3. Methodological thinking applies to our lives when we try to standardize things, but it can be criticized for putting efficiency above human values like community and camaraderie (Defining the Word “Technology... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.5. Technology as social usage
2.2.5.1. Technology as social use refers to how society uses technology, including social norms and processes built on the hardware (Defining the Word “Technology” ... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
2.2.5.2. This can include things like driving rules, the coordination of an orchestra, and the way we interact online, such as commenting on blog posts (Defining the Word “Technology”... Four Times - John Dyer, n.d.).
3. Why we need new technologies?
3.1. Technology is important because it helps solve problems in society and facilitates or automates routine tasks and can even improve the result that humans can achieve.
3.2. The future impact
3.2.1. As mentioned by Kevin Kelly (2010) in his talk about technology, there was a progress: "Technology acelerate all the aspects of the life" (TED, 2010)
3.2.2. As mentioned by Kevin Kelly (2010) in his talk about technology there was a progress with environmental cost. (TED, 2010)
3.2.3. As mentioned by Kevin Kelly (2010) in his talk about technology, there were an increment differences, diversity, options, choices, opportunities, possibilities and freedoms. (TED, 2010)
3.2.4. As mentioned by Kevin Kelly (2010) in his talk about technology there were an evolution in: complexity, diversity, specialization, mutualism, ubiquity, sentence, evolvability, exotropy. (TED, 2010)
3.2.5. Economic growth: "Growing businesses create employment opportunities for people and technology plays a big role in business growth. That’s how important technology is." (Mlblevins, 2008).
3.2.6. Global challenges: "Technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, blockchain, IoT, geo-spatial mapping are powering the fifth industrial revolution and have the potential to help us solve our climate goals." (Why Does Technology Matter?, n.d.)
3.2.7. Human potential: "Technology is important because it enhances the potential for humans to engage in meaningful work." (Botkin, 2021).
3.2.8. Technological performance: "he pace of that technological change can affect its impact, and how quickly a technology improves in performance can be an indicator of its future importance. For decision-makers like investors, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, predicting which technologies are fast improving (and which are overhyped) can mean the difference between success and failure." (A Comprehensive Study of Technological Change, 2021).
4. How have things changed?
4.1. According to Kevin Kelly, a society with little technological development has low life expectancy. Low life expectancy means that little knowledge is developed (TED, 2010). I can conclude that the more technological development, the greater the hope and quality of life (TED, 2010).
4.2. COMMUNICATION: I agree with WEF (2000) that defining how technology changed the world, in the early 2000s, many tech firms were still focused on expanding communication for work through advanced bandwidth for video streaming and other media consumption that is common today. (Here’s How Technology Has Changed the World Since 2000, 2023).
4.3. MAIN CHANGES: I agree with WEF (2000) that defining how technology changed the world, the media and media consumption, climate change and green tech, biotech and health care, shopping experience, entertaiment, and work are the main changes thanks to the technology (Here’s How Technology Has Changed the World Since 2000, 2023).
4.4. As mentioned by Kevin Kelly (2010) in his talk about technology "...Imagine a world without technology , we as a specie, would not live very long. We would die by the billions, and very quickly" (TED, 2010)
4.4.1. Health
4.4.2. Food
4.4.3. \Weather
4.4.4. knowledge
4.4.5. Culture
4.4.6. Language
