What is technology?
da Charlie Nguyen

1. What I thought
1.1. Scientific Advancements
1.2. Software
1.3. Hardware
2. Why we need new technologies
2.1. Constant lifestyle improvements
2.1.1. Entertainment
2.1.2. Social
2.2. Humans are not perfect therefore there will always be problems
2.2.1. Disabilities
2.2.2. Mental Health problems
2.3. Automation/efficiency
2.3.1. More time
2.3.1.1. More New technology
3. Never ending cycle
4. NOT ALWAYS ELECTRONIC AND COMPUTER BASED
5. Is art considered technology?
5.1. "again, there is an overlap with art and technology"(Dyer, 2009)
5.2. Is religion also overlapped with technology?
5.2.1. Advancements of religious social structures. Example: A priest
5.2.2. Rules and beliefs
6. It appears that people struggle on defining technology
6.1. Seems like there is a concensus that technology typically involves 4 elements
6.1.1. Technique, Knowledge, the organisation of the production and the product(Li-Hua, 2007)
6.1.2. Hardware, Manufacturing,Methodology, and Social Usage(Dyer, 2009)
6.2. "Technology is messy and complex. It is difficult to define and to understand. In its variety, it is full of contradictions…Yet today most people in the industrialized world reduce technology’s complexity, ignore its contradictions, and see it as little more than gadgets and as a handmaiden of commercial capitalism and the military. Too often, technology is narrowly equated with computers and the Internet" (Hughes: 2004: 1).
7. What I learned from the module
7.1. "Human’s use of technology involves not only machines (e.g., computer hardware) and instruments, but also includes structured relations with other humans, machines, and the environment. In short, technology is more than a collection of machines and devices. To go beyond simplistic intuitions about technology requires investigation of the human mind and socio-cultural environment as well as interactions with technological artifacts" (Isman, 2012, 208)
8. If technology is so hard to define, why do we just not use the word? Use the terms that all the people from the module sources have provided instead.
