1. Fluid in the lungs

2. Organisms spread to airway mucosa and multiply in the alveolar spaces.

3. Infectious Agents: Bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoa, rickettsiae, or helminths.

4. WBC move to the infection site causing capillary leak, edema, and exudate.

5. Fluid collects in alveoli, walls thicken, causing decrease gas exchange

6. Resulting in crackles heard upon auscultation

7. Hypoxemia: Sp02 less <90%

8. Fibrin and edema tighten the lungs and reduce capacity

9. Causing tachycardia, tachypnea, and dyspnea

10. Causing the patient to feel flushed, anxious, and pain or discomfort in the chest.

11. Signs and symptoms may also include malaise, headache, fever, chills, cough, sputum.

12. Caused by: Inflamation in the interstate spaces, the alveoli, and bronchioles.

13. Noninfectious Agents: Aspiration of food, fluid, or vomit. Inhalation of toxic gases, chemicals, or smoke.
