Input devices vs Output devices

1. The all-in-one printer is an output device. It receives the information from the computer in a soft copy form and produces a hard copy form. One of the benefits to using an all-in-one printer to showing how a document can be transmitted several ways. One of the challenges is if students are printing to it the noise can be distracting, paper jams, or low ink.

2. The keyboard is an input device. It is used to key information into a output device. One of the benefits to using a keyboard is "the computer keyboard has several additional keys not typically found on a typewriter, which are used to control the computer or give software commands" (Lever-Duffy & McDonald, 2011, p. 117).

6. As information is keyed using the keyboard this is the input process. When it shows up on the monitor, this is preparing for soft copy of the output. One of the benefits of using a monitor is the user is able to view and revise what they keyed right on the screen of the monitor. One of the challenges to using a keyboard for a new user is figuring it out which function keys give what commands.

8. The mouse is an input device. One of the benefits to a mouse is the user can click to different areas on the monitor quickly without having to scroll through each line. One of the challenges to using a mouse is new users have issues locating the pointer to know where they are clicking.

10. These devices perform different functions but they work together. For example, a mouse is useless without a monitor to click on, a monitor is useless without and input device to create soft copies, and without input devices there would not be any output processed.
