1. What key events were linked to Atticus?

1.1. Atticus was defending Tom Robinson at the court case, although they had clearly won the case the jury thought otherwise. This related to the theme of discrimination and don't judge a book by its cover. Only because Tom was a black and Ewell was White the Jury thought Tom to be guilty.

1.2. "When it's a white mans word against a black man's, the white man always wins." - Atticus p.240

2. Personality

2.1. Wise - Throughout the novel Atticus shares many life lessons to Scout. "Atticus was right. One time he said you ever really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them." - Scout p. 305

2.2. Fair - Because Atticus wasa lawyer he had to be fair, but even outside his job he never wanted vengeance against Bob Ewell and was always calm about the situation

2.3. Respectful - Every time that Scout and Jem wanted to see what Boo Radley looked like and mentioned it to Atticus, he always replied saying don't bother him, it's none of you business

3. How do other see him?

3.1. Some of the community believed that Atticus was a "nigger-lover" because was going to defend a Black. Even his family called him a nigger-lover

3.2. "I guess it ain't your fault if Uncle Atticus is a nigger-lover besides, I'm here to tell you it certainly does mortify the rest of the family -" - Francis p.89

3.3. Other though of Atticus as brave because he was the one who had to defend a Black. He even went through with it to the best of his ability. Atticus was always calm towards Bob and was respected by the community due to his actions

4. Appearance

4.1. Atticus is an important character in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird but is never described in great detail. "Atticus was feeble: he was nearly fifty... he wore glasses. He was nearly blind in his left eye... Whenever he wanted to say something well, he turned his head and looked from his right eye." p. 97

4.2. While Atticus was sitting outside the jail, we found that he had black hair. "...contrasting oddly with Atticus' graying black hair and square-cut features." p. 164

4.3. Atticus would wear a suit and tie, very formal clothes. We know this because he would take of his tie and unbutton his shirt before putting Scout to sleep.

5. Who was he/ What did he do?

5.1. Atticus was a lawyer elected in to the state legislation. He would defend his client no matter who they were. "there are some men in this world who were born to o our unpleasant jobs for us. Your father's one of them." -Ms Maudie (Chaper 22)

5.2. Atticus was the father of Scout and Jem. The book was written in Scouts perspective so we got to know Atticus as a father. At the start of the book the children believed he was "boring" but as the novel progressed he turned out to have many talents. "What? I certainly am. Ain't everybody's ddaddy the deadest shot in Maycomb County." - Jem pg, 107

6. Beliefs and Values

6.1. Atticus believed that everyone was equal no matter who they were. All of them had a right for justice.

6.2. "the evil assumption - that all Negroes lie, that all Negroes are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women ... Which gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson's skin ... some Negro men are not to be trusted... But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to no particular race of men. There is not a person in the court-room who has never told a lie...Thomas Jefferson once said that all men are created equal." - Atticus p.223
