Waves
by Elijah Jackson
1. Reflection: The interaction that happens when a wave bounces off a surface that it can't pass through.
1.1. When a wave can't pass through a surface.
1.1.1. example: A mirrior
2. Refraction: The bending of a wave as it enters a new medium at an angle
2.1. When a wave goes through a new medium at an angle.
2.1.1. Example: A wave at a beach
3. Diffraction: A wave as it moves around an object of squeezes through a narrow opening.
3.1. A wave going through a small opening.
3.1.1. Example: A jetty.
4. Interference: The interaction of two or more waves that combine in a region of overlap.
4.1. Waves that overlap
4.1.1. Example: Breaker waves
5. Constructive Interference: Creates a bigger wave.
5.1. Adding waves to make a bigger one.
6. Destructive Interference: Creates a smaller wave.
6.1. Taking away the force of a wave and making it smaller.
6.1.1. Example:Quieter sound waves.
7. Standing wave: A wave that stays in one place.
7.1. A still wave
7.1.1. Example: A constant sound wave.
8. Resonance: The response of two standing waves.
8.1. Two standing waves colliding.
8.1.1. A dramatic change in frequency
