1. Past simple

1.1. We use the simple past for complete actions in the past. The time period of these actions is not important

1.2. Affirmative Subject + Verb on past Example He worked at McDonald

1.3. Negative Subject + "to be" + not/ didn't + verb He didn't work at McDonald/He wasn't a doctor

1.4. Question Auxiliar + Subject + verb did he work at McDonald

2. Past perfect

2.1. We use it for actions that occurred before another action in the past.

2.2. Affirmative Subject + had + past participle He had worked as an accountant for many years

2.3. Negative Subject +had +not +past participle He had not worked as an accountant for many years

2.4. Question Had +Subject +past participle Had he worked as an accountant for many years

3. Past continuous

3.1. We use it for actions that were happening at a specific time in the past

3.2. Affirmative Subject + auxiliar verb + verb + ing He was working at McDonald

3.3. Negative Subject + auxiliar verb + not + verb + ing He wasn't working at McDonald

3.4. Question Auxiliar verb + subject + verb + ing Was he working at Mcdonald?

4. Past perfect continuous

4.1. We use it for actions in the process of realization in the past before another action occurred

4.2. Affirmative Subject+had+been+verb+ing He had been studying English for 2 years when he went to London

4.3. Negative Subject+had+not+been+verb+ing He had not been studying English for 2 years when he went to London

4.4. Question Had+subject+been+verb+ing Had he been studying English for 2 years when he went to London?
