Q5) How did you attract/address your audience? by Mind Map: Q5) How did you attract/address your audience?

1. coventions/devices

1.1. My magazine is quite similar to other magazines of the same genre. For example I have used darker colours such as reds and black which magazines such as Kerrang! also use so it is immediately recognisable as being a "rock" magazine.

1.2. The mast head is simple yet has a distorted design which gives it the rebellious/ unconventional connotations of a rock/alt magazine. It would still be easily recognisable if it were seen on a shelf in a shop but it's also interesting and different which is what my audience would be looking for.

2. Text

2.1. The double page spread article relates to younger people as I have used quotes that relate to them doing A-levels. It talks about the difficulties they went through of doing A-levels and trying to be in a band at the same time which relates to younger people who may also be struggling through the same things.

2.2. I included a note to the reader from the editor on the contents page which is intended to make the reader feel more personal. By addressing them in this way it is designed to form a level of loyalty, by feeling more personal with the creator of the magazine they will feel like they are reading a letter from a friend rather than just a magazine.

3. Adverts

3.1. I advertised concerts and festivals that are relevant to my target audience. Reading and Leeds festival is a very popular festival that has been going for a long time and is likely to interest my audience. The Marmozets are also a current/popular band and are likely to interest my audience.

4. Images

4.1. I used a black background on the cover so the model contrasts against it which gives the cover a more striking appearance.

4.2. The main image in the contents page was taken at a festival which reiterates the festival idea. It also makes it more interesting for my audience as I know from a survey I did that they enjoy attending live events.
