1. Angry
1.1. "I don't know, and I don't give a damn." (pg 21)
1.1.1. From this quote, you can tell that Holden is easily irritated. At this part in the novel, Holden is being annoyed by "Ackley Kid" who just wouldn't stop talking.
1.2. “But i didn't see any ducks around, I walked all around the whole damn lake-I damn near fell in once, in fact -but i didn't see a single duck.” (pg 154)
1.2.1. Here, Holden is searching for those ducks at the park again. We aren't quite sure why he has this obsession with the ducks, but i feel as maybe his brother had liked ducks and that's why he is so curious about these ducks
1.3. “You think if they’re intelligent and all, the other person, and have a good sense of humor, that they don’t give a damn whose suitcases are better, but they do.”
2. Sarcastic
2.1. "I could see my mother going in Spaulding's and asking the salesman a million dopy questions-- and here i was getting the ax again." (pg 52)
2.1.1. This is another example of Holden using some phrases that we don't use much anymore.
2.2. “I’d tell you the rest of the story, but I might puke if I did.” (pg 180)

3.3.1. This quote i feel would perfectly describe how a depressed person would be. In this section, Holden is in a hotel and a guy is talking to him. The guy is trying to offer him a "throw". Holden doesn't accept the mans offers, then says how he feels depressed.
4. Annoyed
4.1. “I dont know why, but it bothered the hell out of me.” (pg 79)
4.1.1. This part is similar to the part when "Ackley Kid" was bothering Holden, he gets irritated. This one is when he was hanging with Jane, and a tear fell from her face and onto the checker board, and she kept rubbing it with her finger, and that really bothered Holden.
4.2. “She’d written me this long, phony letter, inviting me over to help her trim the christmas tree Christmas eve…” (pg 59)
4.2.1. Holden is talking about decorating the Christmas tree with this girl he is talking to, and how she sent him a card
4.3. “Almost every damn school in the world gets out earlier for Christmas vacation than the schools i go to.” (pg 83)
4.3.1. I feel like this is just a typical teenager feeling. Its close to break and you're just ready to go.
