2. Pros of Having Homework

2.1. It promotes interaction between the child, parent, and teacher.

2.3. It gives parents an avenue to teach about goal setting, perseverance, planning, and delayed gratification.

2.3.1. These are life skills.

2.4. It shows children that parents care about their effort and work.

2.5. Studies show that the amount of time students spend on homework is related positively to their student achievement in middle and upper grades.

2.6. Students learn that making mistakes is a part of learning. Students can learn from their mistakes, and they can learn strategies of how to make less mistakes.

3. Cons of Having Homework

3.1. Some middle class families complain that homework takes away from family time, sports activities, and other daily activities.

3.1.1. Parents who complain to the teacher about homework are passing these negative feelings about homework to their children.

3.2. A study was done in grades 2 - 4 that showed a negative correlation between homework and student achievement in the classroom. Some of these students reported that students were sad while doing homework.

3.2.1. Teachers should give meaningful homework. Maybe the teachers in this study need to rethink the homework they are giving.

3.3. Some students do not get parental support.

3.3.1. Teachers should provide time for these students to do homework. Examples: time before school starts, recess time, or another convenient time
