1. Text User
1.1. Characteristics: Uses text for a specific purpose. Reads in order to participate in sharing information gained. Reads for knowledge.
1.2. Typical Genre- informational, narratives, religion

2. Text Analyst
2.1. Characteristics: Critically unpacks the text and makes sine out of information that may not be implied or said. Represents a reader who knows that the writer has a point of view.
2.2. Typical Genre- News, advertisements, some historical texts.

3. Text Participant
3.1. Characteristics: Making connections. Relating to schema. Reader has knowledge of the world, culture and structure of the text.
3.2. Typical Genre- Narrative

4. Code Breaker
4.1. Characteristics: Phonemic awareness. Left-to-Right directionality. Alphabet Knowledge.
4.2. Typical Genre- Beginning sounds and phonemes
