Group Performance #2 / Visual Programming Fall 2015 by Mind Map: Group Performance #2 / Visual Programming Fall 2015

1. Potential Themes

1.1. To make a note, use the plus in the upper right corner

1.2. Plan and collaborate on projects

1.3. Interactive, possibly editable.

2. Andre

2.1. Make some use out of webcams...maybe even create an interactive thing where they put the web cam up to their eyes and take a picture and then another person can add their nose and another add their lips. Maybe this could be done using multiple p windows in the locations where facial features are located...maybe figure out a way to take screen shots of the different combinations and display them on a separate monitor as a collection

2.1.1. I think both of these ideas could work really well together. I also have a patch that we can use to draw within pwindow from a tablet, so manipulating them with that would also be pretty sweet! -Ben

2.2. 4 computers talking to each other over the network and we each add something to the performance in a rotation. Ex: one person begins a simple drum beat, next person adds to it or tweaks something, then the next person does the same and so on.

2.3. Make it reference Morse code with beeps. Have directions on screen for the person interacting to do something when they hear a particular combination of sounds/beeps. If they get it correct, they add to something, but if they get it wrong, take away? Have a conversation with someone on another computer using only beeps/sounds? This reminds me of when my cousins and I were young we would use ebaums world's soundboards to prank call places. That type of thing is awesome if you ask me hahaha!!!

2.4. A type of fun house, using webcams to make distorted images of people.

3.1. I added a comment to two of Andre's ideas, so that's something I think we could definitely pull off. All I think we need to do is add a feedback loop with a decay rate of 0 for the screenshot idea, but we can talk to Cory and see what he has to say about that.

3.2. Another thing that I've got working is sending video sources from Max to the VJ program Resolume Arena. Arena has some awesome effects that could be really cool, and we can easily link a MIDI controller to manipulate things in both programs at the same time. This might be something that we need to ask Cory permission for, since it's not just using Max, but I think he'd totally go for it.

3.3. I love the idea of using all of our computers to create music in a sort of "chain-reaction" style. I think we could play around with just sending MSP and MIDI data over the network to one computer after the other until the end of the chain where we have the MIDI outs and the ezdac turned on. We could make this an interactive piece for the volunteers we get from the class for the video part, or we could just have that be a performance piece!

3.3.1. If we used all the computers in Leo Block, that would be awesome!

4.1. Thanks for jumping us off Andre! I like your idea of a webcam interactive experience. I would just recommend simplifying it a bit. Maybe instead of screenshots keep it live video but add features that allow you to tweak the other persons video feed that they are seeing. Love the idea of using all 4 of our computers over the network and using the class as volunteers. To add some critical content we could make it a type of surveillance project where each computer sees another persons webcam and then we as the creators could toggle between who we want on the big screen. A type vouyeristic experience. I like the morris code idea as a fun aspect to it but we would need to keep it simple like 5 words and a series of sounds that represent each word. Or maybe add an "adc" feature that accesses the microphone and uses sound to manipulate the video. Ben and Li I would love your ideas and input on this as well! This could be awesome but we have a lot of work ahead and need to keep communication flowing via email, phone. Lets get it done!

4.1.1. I like voyeuristic experience!

5.1. What I’m thinking about is making a game that every one in the class can participate. Something like a Maze Game, players can use mouse as a moving character to pass through the maze we created. And we can collect the times of each player used with udpsend and udpreceive. But I’m not sure if we are able to do that with Max. Or if we can have every one draw a curve or line and collect these and paste them in a filtergraph to create unique music by us.

5.1.1. This idea is awesome! I really think a group art piece would be awesome too. Like each computer sends something to be added to a big collage at the end.

5.2. I like Andre’s idea of Morse code a lot. I think that would be fun if we create such a project. Think we can discuss more about these on Monday
