Question 6 : Uses of technology by Mind Map: Question 6 : Uses of technology

1. Skills

1.1. Creating the magazine has advanced my skills in Photoshop. I know all the basics and some technical aspects that I can apply for other projects. Continuous use of the software in and outside of media will improve my skills further which could be beneficial, as I may apply for a job that requires basic Photoshop anatomy and me having that skill will make me a successful candidate.

1.2. Learning how to embed videos and content is another important skill that I have gained. Embedding content may come in handy in other subject areas and/or other media projects soon come. The use of blogger has also been a significant help because it is better than keeping a word documents but to have visual documents of all your work kept in one place makes life a lot easier. As teachers are turning to technology for homework, learning to use blogger in media has helped with other subjects such as Drama. This means I can apply my embodied knowledge of the sorftware and use blogger without any difficulty.

1.3. As I previously took Photography as a GCSE , I already have knowledge on how to use DSLR cameras without any difficulty. I know that increasing the shutter speed means that the flash, if used, would be much faster which results in less light being captured. Slowing down the shutter speed means that the camera has more time to capture light, brightening the photo. I also know that the lighting affects the brightness or darkness of an image However, some people chose to do a chiaroscuro effect where half of the models face is shown by the light and the other half is hiding away in the shadows. This effect is usually shown to convey two personalities or someone's mental state.

2. Adobe Collection

2.1. For my front cover , I used Photoshop which was pretty straightforward in terms of navigational features. The software was easy to use because there wasn't many features on my front cover. The only difficulty with Photoshop was that I didn't know how to save colours so i could use it again knowing that I'm going to get the exact shade. Adding rulers made the process much easier because it was a clear guideline on where to locate text and images without it going out of the border.

2.2. My contents page was done in Photoshop because I didn't feel confident using InDesign. I was aware that i would lose marks for doing it on Photoshop However, I would rather produce a good quality contents page on Photoshop than a contents page that was poor and didn't like.

2.3. For my DPS i also used Photoshop because i had an idea in my head of what i wnated my DPS to look like and that could only be fulfilled if i used Photoshop. My lack of confidence using the Indesign software resulted in me having to use Photoshop as my only option. I really liked how my DPS turned out depsite it being on Photoshop. The lack of columns , as seen in conventional magazines, conveyed a good effect that would really attract readers.
