1. Post Civil War
1.1. Immigration increased to the US
1.2. Some Euro-ethnicities were discriminated (eg. Jews
1.3. Jim Crow Laws-- Blacks were viewed "separate but equal"
1.4. Blacks faced many oppression especially with citizenship, education, and housing (How Race is Made in America)
2. Relational Views
2.1. Racial scripts provide us with an explanation to how races affect other races indirectly
2.1.1. This is the start of "stereotypes"
2.2. Racial scripts are influenced by external factors
3. Mexican Immigration
3.1. Mexicans were temporarily only classified as white because they provided labor services in undesirable jobs but not socially accepted
3.2. Mexicans were treated unfairly and faced deportation if there was no use for them
3.3. Also experienced a segregated lifestyle because they were not socially accepted
4. White Privilege
4.1. Whites had an upper hand in pursuing better opportunities
4.2. Better housing and education provided to whites. Minorities lived in ghettos and lacked educational opportunities
